Reflective practice

Have been on holiday and I am now trying to catch up with 23Things...

I must admit to not having heard of the term 'Reflective practice' before.   I think I do this for most work-related things, ie review and try and improve, I just don't call it anything in particular!
But maybe a formal post-project process is a good idea.  Would be good to do as a team as well.

On to Thing 6 !!!

Branding !!!!

I recently completed the Open University 'Evolving professional' CPD course which was a really good overview of everything Web/Library 2.0.  As part of that course, we had to read an article by Tom Peters, 'The brand called you', first published in 1997 (try this link: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/10/brandyou.html?page=0%2C0 ).  It is not about Online branding but it does make the point that we are all our Own brand which gave me much food for thought.  It makes you think about yourself differently and it has definitely changed the way I present myself at work.  So may be worth reading to back up the online branding stuff.

Mind you, I think the online branding is harder, particularly if you are blogging on behalf of your organisation rather than as an individual.  Still lots to think about!

Better read Thing 4 before I get even further behind.

Thing 2 - comments

Bit mad here at the moment but have finally managed to leave one comment.  Just wondered if anyone else had had a problem with doing this.  Everytime I pressed 'Post comment' on Deborah's blog I was redirected to the sign-in page for Google; then went back to Deborah's blog and the same thing happened again.   Having finally snapped out of this hypnotic routine, I did a quick search and found this is a known bug with Blogger and Google accounts.  One of the fixes is to untick the 'Stay signed in' box on the Google account sign-in.  I tried that and it worked!  So, if anyone else is going round in circles when posting comments, try that.

CPD23 - just started

I work as an Information Manager for a high profile social enterprise that assists people back to work after they have been away from the labour market for sometime.  I set up and now maintain a database of organisations and information sources to which our advisors can refer our clients.  These include training providers, careers information, childcare information as well as all kinds of other information that can help our clients get back to work.  I also do referrals on behalf of our advisors, particularly the harder ones such as finding out how to become a chocolatier or how to set up a social enterprise.

I have completed the OU CPD course on Web 2.0 and I now want to learn more about blogging, wikis and social networks so that I can use them for our information service.

I looked at Thing 1 on the 23 Things course and setting up a blog is the first task.  I decided to try Blogger as I am starting to use Wordpress for my personal blog and wanted to get experience of a different platform.  It is a bit confusing but I am sure I will get used to it.

Just really pleased to have got started!
